To Know TRX is to Love TRX
You’ve seen them in the gym, you may have even tried them, but do you realize what an amazing workout you’ll get using the TRX suspension straps? TRX stands for total body resistance exercise. My obsession with TRX started when I had shoulder surgery. I read an article about Drew Brees, quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, who credited the TRX suspension trainer for his quick recovery from a brutal shoulder injury. I thought I’d give it a try. After about a month, I was hooked. I got certified and started training clients at Fitness Incentive.
In the years that followed, I had some minor setbacks – another shoulder surgery, and a scoped knee. Then a few more…the list goes on and on. If you know me, then you know that I put a lot of effort into my workouts. TRX helped me get stronger after each surgery and return to my prior form.
More Than Rehab
However, TRX is not just a tool for recovering from surgery. It is a great form of exercise for everyone, from hardcore athletes to beginners and all those in between. It is a versatile tool in your fitness regimen and can be used to achieve any fitness goal. Whether you want to build strength, lose fat, improve endurance or flexibility, or work on functional training, TRX can help. By simply using your body weight to perform hundreds of exercises, you get a full-body workout while at the same time working your core. And because you’re working with one training tool and can adjust your weight by stepping closer to or farther from the anchor, you can reduce your training time by switching from one exercise to the next in mere seconds. In addition, TRX stresses smooth, non-impact-based exercises, which take a lot of stress off the body while still demanding constant core stabilization.
That’s all the technical information about the TRX suspension trainer. Now I’ll tell you why I love my TRX workouts.
- The TRX is for everyone, no matter your fitness level.
- Exercise never gets boring.
- Get a stronger core ( no joke )
- Lower risk of injury compared with free weight training.
- Gain more muscle
- Do more in less time
- New twists on old exercises
- Work in a fun, small group setting
- Plank like never before
- It is heart-healthy!!
Personally, I work out on the TRX at least twice a week. I love it because it never gets boring. I love that I can train unilaterally and address my areas of weakness. Most of all, I love introducing my Fitness Incentive friends to the magic of TRX. Who’s next?!
What Do TRX-ing Members Think?
A great way to enhance your weekly workout is TRX with Sharon Donnelly. Sharon facilitates an organized workout that focuses on total-body strength: building core strength, developing muscle tone, and increasing bone density. After a few weeks of training, my body shape changed! I saw a trimmed mid-drift, a flattened stomach, more toned arms, and an overall improved balance. I feel that I am trimmer and muscle toned from my neck down. It’s a total body interval workout.
