The Great Reset

After a summer of turning 60, celebrating, and overindulging, I was absolutely miserable. I regained the weight that I had worked so hard to take off; I was so sluggish with no motivation, angry at myself, and a bit depressed. I decided to join the Fall Contest to hopefully kickstart myself in the right direction. I was always intimidated by the challenges, thinking I would be with all these really fit people who would do so much better than me. This contest was only 6 weeks, and it was different in that we trained outside with TRX, and it was more of HIIT-type workouts.

It’s Not Easy

I’m not going to lie. The first two or three days were torture. I had bad headaches and didn’t think I would get through it. While training twice a week, I followed a detox diet I got from Liz Keller, FI’s Nutritionist. In the beginning, I didn’t love dieting either. When I learned I could salt my food, it was a game changer. We had a group on Facebook where we all shared protein-rich, healthy recipes.

I was on one of Theresa Christensen’s teams with five other amazing women. We laughed a lot and really supported and encouraged one another. I looked forward to my workouts. I honestly can’t say enough wonderful things about Theresa. She is one of the kindest people I know. She helped us do so many new, incredible workouts, was always there to correct our form, gave us modifications, and pushed us to increase weight and strive to work harder each session.  If I had any questions about anything, Theresa was a text away; she responded to all of us night and day.

Post-Contest

Theresa gave us weekly challenges that I still do, and I am stepping up my other workouts as well.  Theresa shared her knowledge and expertise with us during sessions and whenever she saw us working out on the floor. I did some research on my own and learned the importance of weight training as you get older. It improves bone strength, helps control blood sugar, increases mobility and flexibility, promotes healthy weight loss, is a brain booster, and helps maintain hormonal balance.

40 Years and Now This!

I have been a member of this incredible gym since the very beginning, 40-plus years.  I love the classes here; like everything else, they are top-notch. I also love the music, and the variety of classes is perfect for my short attention span. But this contest – the results and benefits way exceeded all my expectations! The benefits far exceeded my fitness goals.  My flexibility improved greatly, as did my balance.  My focus and mental health improvement were a major bonus as well. I truly have never felt better, and I’m 60 now! I noticed a huge difference in my stamina and level of fitness, and my body has noticeably changed.

Throughout this experience, I learned innumerable things regarding diet and fitness. I’ve continued to vary my workouts, doing a few classes and adding Pilates and yoga.  I’ve continued TRX/HIIT with Theresa once a week and do strength training at least 3 times a week.  I also row, use the stairclimbers, and walk every day.  I truly feel transformed in the best ways possible.

Thank You!

I want to thank Liz and, of course, Theresa for all the help and encouragement. I am forever grateful. If you haven’t tried any of the contests, I highly recommend you do. You will be so happy you did. It is not just a fitness challenge; it’s an “improve your life in so many ways” challenge.  If you’re wondering, I didn’t win or place in the contest. However, I did win in so many ways, as did every other amazing participant!
