Slow Your Mind
Taking time to slow your mind each day provides endless benefits for your overall wellness. The brain is an organ like any other; just like your heart is designed to pump and your lungs are designed to breathe, your mind is designed to think.
More is Less
The primary function of thinking is to keep you alive. Your mind is taking in information from throughout your body and from the world around you to assess your safety. In ancient times, these threats typically came from the natural world, the need to find food and avoid dangerous beasts. These days, the danger detected comes from modern-day stresses like deadlines at work, taking care of your family, finances, and so many other things. The stimulus around us has changed, but the way our brain detects danger has not. So when these modern-day stressors affect us, our mind still reacts as it always has – with more thoughts. Without this understanding, quieting the mind can feel hopeless, but I promise you it is not.
Find a Meditation Modality That Works For You
There’s a diverse array of meditation styles, each adaptable to your preferences, from focused attention to visualization, body scanning, and sound. If traditional meditation hasn’t resonated with you, that’s perfectly fine. The key is to find something that fully engages you in the moment and brings you joy. It could be gardening, reading, walking, or simply sitting in a peaceful place. The important thing is that you enjoy it. Do it with all your attention on your senses to stay fully present in the moment. When your mind wanders, gently bring it back to all the wonders of this exact moment. These ancient Buddhist techniques can be seamlessly incorporated into your daily routine, such as brushing your teeth, washing the dishes, or making breakfast or tea.
Revolutionize Your Life
Meditation and stillness are excellent to practice, but the real magic happens when you bring these principles to your regular day. This lifestyle shift can enhance your productivity while still maintaining a sense of balance and relaxation. It brings clarity and helps you organize your schedule to serve you best. When you take time to be fully mindful, you learn how you work best, when you need rest, and when to ask for help. It’s a transformative journey that has the potential to revolutionize your life, inspiring you to live with more intention and joy.
If you would like to practice this together, join my next Day Retreat, Reflect & Reset, on Sunday, October 20th. We will Restore and Reflect on our way of life to celebrate all our hard work and stay aligned on a path that feels right for you.
