Looking to Switch
I’ve gotten a lot of inquiries about OWAY from clients looking to switch from traditional hair color. They are typically seeking an organic option out of some combination of concerns: Some have allergies; Others are looking to lead the cleanest lifestyles possible; Many want to use cruelty-free and vegan products and, in general, are looking for color that is not just beautiful but also nourishing and long-lasting.
Here is a selection of the most common questions I hear – and my responses!
“Is there really such a thing as Organic Bleach?”
Yes! We use OWAY’s HBleach Butter Lightener for Organic Highlights and Hair Painting. This all-organic product is made from ingredients that include pure essential oils and Kukui butter. The ‘bleach’ it contains is a nourishing and non-aggressive formula that improves hair integrity without the hair erosion that often can accompany the repeated use of conventional bleach over time.
“Does Organic hair color and lightener have any ammonia?”
No! OWAY’s hair color and lighteners contain NO ammonia. Many non-organic colors and bleach (especially box colors) do, and they often leave your hair feeling dried out, brittle, and prone to breakage.
“Will it really cover my greys?”
Yes! OWAY offers ninety-five different shades to choose from, and they all provide full grey coverage.
“Why should I go organic with my hair color?”
The chemicals commonly found in the synthetic dyes used in conventional (often inexpensive) and boxed colors strip away the hair’s natural lipid layer, leaving it exposed to the environment and feeling rough. They also alter the natural pH of the hair and scalp, which eventually weakens protein structures and stunts growth. OWAY’s Hcolor line shifts the pH of the hair very delicately and thus avoids the stunting of hair growth that can occur when sudden, harsh changes in pH increase the hair’s and scalp’s alkalinity. OWAY’s activators are formulated using a phytobutter base that includes Illipe butter, Perilla oil, and biodynamic hibiscus extract. This cocktail provides extra protection for the hair and scalp, resulting in healthy, irritation-free hair with improved texture, especially when used over time. Also, where these same conventional and boxed colors use synthetic fragrances that irritate, OWAY uses pure, calming essential oils.
