Hello Fall…
Hello cozy sweaters, hello pumpkin everything, and helloooooo routine. The change of seasons is a great catalyst for personal changes and an opportunity to start fresh. It is a great time to set some new goals, detox from summer and to get back in a kick-ass routine. Below are my suggestions for starting out the fall season with some self-care to have you feeling your absolute best.
Bye, bye alcohol
No, not for good…relax! But I do recommend taking two full weeks to remove alcohol from your diet. The end of summer is the perfect time to give your body a little detox. Cutting back on alcohol will support more restful sleep, increased productivity, less stress, and healthier skin. When you eliminate the added calories from alcohol and the effect it has on your metabolism you will also see effortless weight loss. After the two weeks are up, try to limit drinking to weekends or special evenings out.
Freshen up that skin
Nothing is better than a nice summer glow. Unfortunately, the sun can wreak damage on your skin, leaving it with a multitude of issues including sun spots, dryness, signs of aging, and reduced elasticity. There is no better fix than a facial with a professional who will evaluate your skin and provide you with your best-suited treatment. I personally recommend the Hydrafacial which I just experienced for the first time two weeks ago as my post-summer skin detox and OH MY GOSH! Kathy Roccogrande, our amazing esthetician at Incentives Organic Spa and Salon, performed the treatment on me, and my skin has never looked or felt better. I am looking forward to my next one in two weeks for my pre-wedding treatment!
Get back on the bandwagon
It is so incredibly easy to find a million other things to do in the summer other than being in a gym. If you are someone who typically takes off or dials back the gym in the summer, I don’t blame you, but now is the time to get back into your exercise regime. It can be depressing to have to head indoors after the summer so make sure your exercise routine is something fun. You will be most successful if you actually enjoy what you are doing. Classes are my favorite way to exercise but find what you love and rock it. Research shows it takes 21 days to get into a routine stick with it, so don’t get discouraged!
Reconnect with nature
The temperature is getting cooler, but that does not mean you should spend your weekends inside. Save that for the winter! Fall is simply a time to shift our relationship with the great outdoors. Instead of heading to the beach, head out for a hike with a nice cup of coffee and a friend (or puppy). There are so many wonderful places to explore on Long Island. Some of my favorites are Cold Spring Harbor State Park (dog-friendly), Caumsett State Park and Blydenburgh park (dog-friendly).
Whatever you do, my best advice is to get moving, indoors and out, and make the most of this wonderful season!
