Protect Your Locks from Winter!
As the cold weather moves in, we start changing our routines and gearing up for the coziness that is winter. However, there is one routine that should never be overlooked – your winter hair care routine. With the colder temps comes drier air (indoors & out), which leads to dehydrated, brittle hair. Around this time of year, clients share with me their concerns about how dull and dry their hair looks and feels, but they don’t understand why – they tell me, “I haven’t changed a thing!” Well, not changing a thing is precisely the problem! The volumizing shampoos that worked for you in the summer are not necessarily the best for the winter months. Now is the time we need nourishing, hydrating products and treatments that keep our hair healthy, happy, and looking gorgeous all through the winter.
Our Top 7 Hair Care Tips for Winter
- Don’t overwash your hair. Shampooing your hair every day can strip your hair of its natural oils, causing further dryness and irritation. Try to extend the time between washes and use a mild shampoo to maintain the natural balance.
- Never skip conditioner. Use a conditioner with natural oils like shea butter, coconut, olive, and jojoba for the colder months.
- Protect your hair from static. Combat static with a leave-in conditioning spray.
- Even your hair needs a mask. Treatments such as hair masks for hydration are crucial. I recommend K18 as a must in your winter hair! It addresses these issues on a molecular level, hydrating, repairing, and healing unlike anything else on the market. It works to repair even the most extreme damage.
- Cover your hair. Cover your head up with a scarf or line your hats with silk or satin to prevent hair breakage from the friction of cotton and woolen materials. You can also use a dry oil spray to fight static and tame your hair.
- Don’t even think about going outside with a wet head. In winter, wet hair can actually freeze, which in turn can cause breakage, lack of shine, and your color to fade.
- Get regular trims. It’s very common to get split ends and hair breakage in the winter months. Keep up on those trims to keep your hair healthy.
